Overview
Joint Freedom operates on a clear sequence: a free initial consultation, an honest evaluation, a treatment plan if we can help, and structured ongoing care. No surprises, no pressure, no sales pitches. The goal of every visit is to give you a clear answer to the question that brought you in.
Most patients see meaningful change within the first few weeks of starting a protocol. Some respond faster, some respond slower, and some find that what they came in for is not actually what they needed. We design the process to surface that early so you do not waste time on the wrong plan.
From scheduling to ongoing care
01
Scheduling your consultation
The first step is a free thirty-minute consultation. There is no commitment to begin treatment. Schedule online through the Request Consultation form, by phone at (804) 577-8900, or by email at info@joint-freedom.com. We typically schedule consultations within one week. Same-week appointments are often available, particularly for patients with neurological symptoms, recent injuries, or pain that is interfering with sleep or daily activity. Before your visit, we recommend gathering any relevant history: a list of treatments you have already tried, recent imaging or lab work if available, and the specific questions you want answered.
02
Arriving at the clinic
Joint Freedom is located at 2301 N Parham Rd, Suite 1, Henrico, VA 23229, in the greater Richmond area. Parking is available on-site and free. The clinic is on the first floor and accessible. Plan to arrive about ten minutes early for your first visit to complete a brief intake form. The form covers basic medical history, current medications, the area of concern, and what you are hoping to address.
03
Your first visit
The consultation is led by April Ashworth, AGPCNP-BC, our Medical Director. The visit takes about thirty minutes and is built around three things: a comprehensive history (what brought you in, what you have already tried, what is working, what is not, what you are trying to achieve), a clinical examination of the affected area and movement patterns, and an honest recommendation that lays out what is happening, your treatment options, timelines, and likely outcomes. There is no commitment to begin treatment after the consultation.
04
Building your treatment plan
If we can help and you choose to begin treatment, we build a plan around your case. Cause-specific (the plan addresses what is actually driving the symptom). Sequenced (treatments work better in the right order). Personalized (your physiology, history, activity level, and goals). Transparent on cost (you know exactly what your plan costs before you commit, in writing).
05
Beginning treatment
Most patients can begin treatment within one to two weeks of their consultation. Acute cases can often begin sooner. The first treatment session typically takes thirty to sixty minutes depending on what we are doing. Laser therapy sessions are about ten minutes. PRP and HA injection sessions are about thirty to forty-five minutes. Hormone therapy and weight loss visits are typically twenty to thirty minutes. Most treatments require no recovery and no downtime. You return to your day immediately.
06
Ongoing monitoring and adjustment
The plan is monitored. We track how your body is responding and adjust based on what we see. For regenerative therapy, follow-up visits are typically scheduled at four-week and eight-week intervals to assess tissue response. For hormone therapy, lab work is repeated at structured intervals to track the response and refine the dose. For weight loss support, body composition assessment and clinical check-ins happen at every visit. The frequency of visits decreases over time as the protocol stabilizes.
What to bring to your first visit
To get the most out of your consultation, bring the following if available.
- A list of treatments you have already tried, with approximate dates and outcomes
- Recent imaging (MRI, X-ray, ultrasound) on disc or in your patient portal
- Recent lab work, particularly hormone or metabolic panels
- A list of current medications and supplements
- Names of other providers involved in your care (primary care, specialist, PT)
- The specific questions you want answered
If you do not have all of this, that is fine. We work with what you bring, and we order what we need.
What to expect in communication
Between visits, you can reach the clinic by phone, email, or our patient portal. Most non-urgent questions are answered within one business day. For acute or urgent concerns, the clinic line is staffed during business hours and we direct after-hours emergencies appropriately.
We coordinate with your other providers when continued care alongside our treatment makes sense. We share information with your primary care physician or specialist when that is helpful for your overall care.
Insurance and payment
Joint Freedom does not bill insurance directly. Most regenerative therapies (PRP) are not insurance-covered. HA injections for the knee may have partial coverage in some plans. Coverage for testosterone therapy and weight loss medications varies significantly by carrier and plan.
We accept HSA and FSA payments for eligible treatments. Payment plans are available for qualifying treatment plans. We provide transparent pricing during your consultation so you know exactly what your plan costs before you commit.
If we are not the right fit
Some patients arrive at consultation expecting we can help when we cannot. Either the case is outside our scope, the diagnosis points elsewhere, or the right path is something we do not offer.
When that happens, we tell you honestly and direct you toward what would help. We are not the right clinic for every patient, and we say so directly. The integrity of the practice depends on this.
